Mentioned so far are the two manuals that Toastmasters use. One is the Competent Communicator Manual and the other is the Competent Leadership Manual. Both consisting of ten projects each, the member performs the assigned speech in front of the group after which the other club members give immediate comments on how the speech was conducted and its content. A speaker is alloted a specific time to finish the presentation which usually lasts for 5 to 7 minutes for basic programs.
Their educational program is distinguished because of the evaluation of speeches done as soon as the speaker finishes the presentation. Criticisms are constructive so that the member will be able to take note of the feedback and perform a more improved speech subsequently. Evaluations are both orally done and written at the member’s manual.
Advanced programs are available once a member is through with the basic manuals and has earned the Competent Communicator or Competent Leader title. A member may opt to continue with the next level. 15 manuals are available for the advanced program. These manuals contain 5 projects each.
A variety of topics are included such as entertainment and media communication, sales presentations, informative speeches among others. A member can earn the title Advanced Communicator by finishing at least two of these manuals.
Toastmasters club members’ highest award is known as the Distinguished Toastmaster. These are for members who have already gained their advanced courses. I have been a member of Toastmasters for a few months now and I can validate what is stated in this article.
The Communication Projects allows you to get comfortable in front of an audience, start speaking in public and gradually add more “tools” to your speeches, such as the use of humour or the interaction with the public.
And all this at your own pace, without stress!
By watching the other club members you get some ideas about tricks to successfully deliver a speech.
Through the constructive speech evaluations you become aware of the aspects you need to improve.
Each speech you make, each evaluation you get, you can see the progresses you accomplish.
So, I highly recommend you to learn more about Toastmasters and pay a visit to the club nearest to you.
Start working in your potential!!

Well, here´s yet another testimony from a toastmaster member…
I strongly advise everybody to attend a meeting in a nearby Toastmasters club. There, you will find a very open-minded, friendly environment, in wich you will be able to make progress in public speaking.
You should give it a go, despite your background. You will always learn something, either if you are a regular public speaker, or if you are terrified with the mere idea of step in to the spotlight and open your mouth!
I am pleased to be a tostmaster, and I really have to say: congratulations, Francisco! Your enthusiasm is undoubted.
See you at the club meetings…
