Toastmasters International: Bringing a new look in Public Speaking Pedro Caramez: A revelation of wisdom
Apr 28

It’s really frustrating to talk for hours and get to feel that you’re not getting your thoughts through, isn’t it?

Since the dawn of time, man has been able to create means of getting information and communicating. Gestures, objects… anything that would get his thoughts across. As the human race evolved, man’s hunger for sharing and gaining knowledge has slowly transformed this crude way of communicating to what we call nowadays as “conversation.”

But to carry a conversation or, better yet, to carry your thoughts through and claim that you are effectively communicating does not mean that the act is confined solely with the use of our tongues and vocal chords. Man’s constant search for truth and knowledge has allowed him to progress in ways never before thought of possible.

As we enter the dawn of yet another millennium, one would think “Where has the art of being human gone?”

Visual Communication, as we’ve so called this “ancient practice” in recent times, still plays an enormous role in public speaking. Our bodies should naturally blend with what we are trying to impart. Emotions serve as a tool that could be used to give emphasis on what one wants to share or talk about.

David Gray, the founder and CEO of Xplane, created a concept upholding this theory of visual communication and is vocally spreading the word on how effective the art of being able to visually express ourselves can be in our daily needs.

For every Toastmaster, part of being effective at their craft is being able to apply both capabilities: visual and verbal. Needless to say, it would be a very futile effort to alienate these to capabilities from each other.

Despite the fact that all things to-date is fully automated, visually communicating is a plus factor in getting across. In a way, it shows people that we’re still human in every sense of the word.
